Documentary to Watch

John McCormack, St. Marks, recommends the documentary “United States of Tents“, “which explores the reality of homelessness in the U.S. as of 2018,  using real world visits to homeless camps, tiny homes and other shelter options, in Hawaii, Kansas City, Atlanta, New Jersey and other areas. Sacramento even gets a short video clip.”

Seeking Donations of Basic Goods

Dear Friends and Community Partners,

June 8, 2020

Due to Covid-19 many of the services that were previously available to our neighbors without homes have been closed to them. As a result, there is an even greater need for people who care to join together to provide assistance. Arden Arcade HART supports Mercy Pedalers, Sacramento Self- Help Housing Navigators, and Street Nurses in their outreach to the members of our community without homes. We would love for you to be our partners in reaching out to the most vulnerable members of our community. We are initiating a project to weekly collect donations supporting the Arden Arcade Sacramento Self-Help Housing Navigator and the Mercy Pedalers in their street outreach. Our goal is to gather resources to support them in their important work of meeting our brothers and sisters without homes where they are, letting them know we care, sharing some essential items for personal health and safety with them, and helping them connect to resources in our area. If you are unfamiliar with these organizations and their work you can learn more at https://www.sacselfhelp.org/ and https://mercypedalers.com/.

We will be collecting food items, hygiene items, clothing items (new), and other donations as listed on the flyer [you can download at the bottom of this post]. Our donation campaign will run through June and July beginning Monday June 15th with the last collection day currently scheduled for Monday July 27th at which time we will evaluate and consider extending this project. We will be coordinating volunteers who will receive donations from our friends and valued community partners on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer at 4641 Marconi Avenue. Volunteers will also help to assemble snack bags and hygiene kits for distribution to our neighbors without homes. Social distancing recommendations will be in place for volunteer’s and donor’s safety. If you are interested in volunteering (opportunities available for individuals and families) you can contact Arden Arcade HART Vice President Jeannie Anderson-West at (916)719-0382 or ardenarcadehart@gmail.com.

Please join us in this important outreach, by sharing this information with those within your circle, donating, and/or volunteering with us. We look forward to serving with you!

Warmly,

CeeCee Coleman, President Arden Arcade HART
